Motor Mouse makes guest appearance at event

28/06/2004 - The Oulton Park Family Fun Day took place on Saturday 26 June and was a success despite the poor weather.

Oulton Park's very own Motor Mouse was at the event and enjoyed mingling with the crowd and with other members of MotorSport Vision staff.

The event also saw an appearance by Coronation Street's Samia Ghadie, who plays Maria and was supporting the Leighton Hospital Prostate cancer support group.

The on-track action included a North West Formula Ford race with Stephen Roberts taking victory in his Van Dieman RF92 from ex-King of Kents champion David Fricker in second and Pole position driver Gavin Wills in third.

The Sports 2K race saw pole position driver Matt Manderson storm from the front row of the grid to win with a lead of 23s over Keith Norman and the Lola T88/90 of Mike Turner.

In Sports 2000, Anthony Wilds could not convert his pole position into a win and did not complete the full race distance. It was Colin Rodger who started on the third row of the grid and claimed the win, just ahead of the Van Diemen of Nik Johnson. Harry Chapman was in a distant third position.

The Ford XR race was won by the Ford Escort XR3i of Chris Jones, who claimed the spoils ahead of pole position man Mike Wright and and the Ford Fiesta XR2 of Mark Young.

It was a battle in the Pirelli Marenello Ferrari Challenge race between Ferrari veteran Marco Attard and Phil Burton, Attard finally winning the 12-lap race by a nose. Kevin Riley took the final podium position in third place.

Nicky Paul-Barron took his Ferrari 328GTB to a dominant victory in the Classic Ferrari race ahead of Nick Taylor and David Wild.

There were two races for the Clubmans 1800 Formula Ford Championship. Simon Kinsey took victory in the first race, but could not repeat his performance in the second, Basil Shaabon taking the second victory. Jeremy Unsworth was consistently strong and scored two seconds while third was taken by Zan Wilkinson in race one and former BRDC Single-Seater champion Ryan Parouty in race two.
